Praying Through The Bible - Day 3 - James 3

God, Thank you for making me who I am in you. Thank you for being the light! God thank you for puting joy and excitement into my life and heart! God be with those who are reading this, and be with my coworkers and friends! God increase my friendships and relationships!

Not many of you should presume to be teachers, my brothers, because you know that we who teach will be judged more strictly. 2We all stumble in many ways. If anyone is never at fault in what he says, he is a perfect man, able to keep his whole body in check.
3When we put bits into the mouths of horses to make them obey us, we can turn the whole animal. 4Or take ships as an example. Although they are so large and are driven by strong winds, they are steered by a very small rudder wherever the pilot wants to go. 5Likewise the tongue is a small part of the body, but it makes great boasts. Consider what a great forest is set on fire by a small spark. 6The tongue also is a fire, a world of evil among the parts of the body. It corrupts the whole person, sets the whole course of his life on fire, and is itself set on fire by hell.

7All kinds of animals, birds, reptiles and creatures of the sea are being tamed and have been tamed by man, 8but no man can tame the tongue. It is a restless evil, full of deadly poison.

9With the tongue we praise our Lord and Father, and with it we curse men, who have been made in God's likeness. 10Out of the same mouth come praise and cursing. My brothers, this should not be. 11Can both fresh water and salt[a] water flow from the same spring? 12My brothers, can a fig tree bear olives, or a grapevine bear figs? Neither can a salt spring produce fresh water.

13Who is wise and understanding among you? Let him show it by his good life, by deeds done in the humility that comes from wisdom. 14But if you harbor bitter envy and selfish ambition in your hearts, do not boast about it or deny the truth. 15Such "wisdom" does not come down from heaven but is earthly, unspiritual, of the devil. 16For where you have envy and selfish ambition, there you find disorder and every evil practice.
17But the wisdom that comes from heaven is first of all pure; then peace-loving, considerate, submissive, full of mercy and good fruit, impartial and sincere. 18Peacemakers who sow in peace raise a harvest of righteousness.
- James 3

Not many of you should presume to be teachers, my brothers, because you know that we who teach will be judged more strictly.

2We all stumble in many ways. If anyone is never at fault in what he says, he is a perfect man, able to keep his whole body in check. - ALL every single one of us. in multiple things and it happens again and again and again, but God still loves us - Being able to control your tongue is a mark of maturity.

- You can't take what you say back. Something so small controls how everything functions. The tongue is a powerful thing. It can build others up and offer praise and encouragement and to vocally express love, but the tongue can also destroy. - God make me control my tongue. God make me slow down and think about what I'm doing. God help me to build others up and control what I think and then what I say.

Watch what you say! - God consume me from the inside out. let justice and praise become my embrace. God help me to tame and control my thoughts and the things I say. God as praise comes out of my mouth negative things also come out and that isn't glorifying to you. make me salt and light. Let my words and actions glorify you.

16For where you have envy and selfish ambition, there you find disorder and every evil practice.- What is driving me? - God be the force behind everything I do. God allow me to be a peacemaker and an encourager. God help me to authentic with everyone i meet and show them you in all I do. God let me show people you love. If I have to let me use words may may actions show your love!
17But the wisdom that comes from heaven is first of all pure; then peace-loving, considerate, submissive, full of mercy and good fruit, impartial and sincere. 18Peacemakers who sow in peace raise a harvest of righteousness.- Not for our own gain - You can't plant and sucessfully grow in tainted soil - God may my heart be pure "Give me one pure and holy passion
Give me on magnificent obsession
Give me one glorious ambition for my life
To know and follow hard after You

To know and follow hard after you
To grow as your dicsiple in your truth
This world is empty, pale, and poor
Compared to knowing you, my Lord
Lead me on and I will run after you" God move me out of the way so that others may see you and your love.

- James 3

God thank you for your grace and mercy. God give us joy, peace and rest in our souls, body and mind. Help me to find and spread joy in you

Praying Through The Bible - Day 2 James 2

Today at work I found a Bible reader companion by Lawrence Richards, so I will also be using that while reading through the bible, it’s pretty nifty!

God show me your way through your word, guide me and teach m. let me leave all of my distractions at the door, and allow me to fully focus on you! God have your word bless my heart. Let me not get discouraged. Let my yes be my yeas and my no be my no. God thank you for answering my pray, and specifically my prayer to share about you with someone. God train me to continually trust in you!

“1My brothers, as believers in our glorious Lord Jesus Christ, don't show favoritism. 2Suppose a man comes into your meeting wearing a gold ring and fine clothes, and a poor man in shabby clothes also comes in. 3If you show special attention to the man wearing fine clothes and say, "Here's a good seat for you," but say to the poor man, "You stand there" or "Sit on the floor by my feet," 4have you not discriminated among yourselves and become judges with evil thoughts?
5Listen, my dear brothers: Has not God chosen those who are poor in the eyes of the world to be rich in faith and to inherit the kingdom he promised those who love him? 6But you have insulted the poor. Is it not the rich who are exploiting you? Are they not the ones who are dragging you into court? 7Are they not the ones who are slandering the noble name of him to whom you belong?
8If you really keep the royal law found in Scripture, "Love your neighbor as yourself,"[a] you are doing right. 9But if you show favoritism, you sin and are convicted by the law as lawbreakers. 10For whoever keeps the whole law and yet stumbles at just one point is guilty of breaking all of it. 11For he who said, "Do not commit adultery,"[b] also said, "Do not murder."[c] If you do not commit adultery but do commit murder, you have become a lawbreaker.
12Speak and act as those who are going to be judged by the law that gives freedom, 13because judgment without mercy will be shown to anyone who has not been merciful. Mercy triumphs over judgment!
14What good is it, my brothers, if a man claims to have faith but has no deeds? Can such faith save him? 15Suppose a brother or sister is without clothes and daily food. 16If one of you says to him, "Go, I wish you well; keep warm and well fed," but does nothing about his physical needs, what good is it? 17In the same way, faith by itself, if it is not accompanied by action, is dead.
18But someone will say, "You have faith; I have deeds."
Show me your faith without deeds, and I will show you my faith by what I do.
19You believe that there is one God. Good! Even the demons believe that—and shudder.
20You foolish man, do you want evidence that faith without deeds is useless[d]? 21Was not our ancestor Abraham considered righteous for what he did when he offered his son Isaac on the altar? 22You see that his faith and his actions were working together, and his faith was made complete by what he did. 23And the scripture was fulfilled that says, "Abraham believed God, and it was credited to him as righteousness,"[e] and he was called God's friend. 24You see that a person is justified by what he does and not by faith alone.
25In the same way, was not even Rahab the prostitute considered righteous for what she did when she gave lodging to the spies and sent them off in a different direction? 26As the body without the spirit is dead, so faith without deeds is dead.”
- James 2

“1My brothers, as believers in our glorious Lord Jesus Christ, don't show favoritism.

2Suppose a man comes into your meeting wearing a gold ring and fine clothes, and a poor man in shabby clothes also comes in. 3If you show special attention to the man wearing fine clothes and say, "Here's a good seat for you," but say to the poor man, "You stand there" or "Sit on the floor by my feet," –Everyone wants to be rich and no one want to me poor – God make me rich in you and poor in the world. God I find it so easy to think sometimes about how in the end it wont matter about what I have materially, and that is true, but it doesn’t matter now either! God forgive me for my selfishness. Give me new eyes and ears to see and hear the world as you do. Forgive me and break me of my selfish and judgmental spirit.

4have you not discriminated among yourselves and become judges with evil thoughts?
– Only god has the right to judge - God I’m sorry I try and “step” into your shoes, and try and tell you how I thinks should be done. God only you have the right and power to judge. Take away my eagerness to form an opinion about someone. God I thank you for giving me grace and mercy and for not treating me how I treat others. God take away my pride.

5Listen, my dear brothers: Has not God chosen those who are poor in the eyes of the world to be rich in faith and to inherit the kingdom he promised those who love him? – Might not be talking about money… What do I see as poor?- God may I be poor in the ways of the world but be rich in you and your ways. God give me a fulfilling life that is pleasing to you!

– It doesn’t say love those who are easy to love. I really don’t like some of my “neighbors” – God I thank you for the things you show me in your scripture. “Love the people you feel are unloveable.” And from my past you have brought into my mind how I have epicly failed in this area. God Caiti’s name comes immediately to my mind. God there are no such things as coincidences so I praise you for showing your amazingness! God help me to address her right away and allow me to have the opportunity to love those who are hard to love.

– Could break the law a little?? That’s like being a little bit pregnant. You are or you aren’t, you did or you didn’t. – God help me to remember that all sins are the same. My white lie I’m sure I told someone today is the same as someone who murders their entire family. It’s wrong and I need your forgiveness for it.

12Speak and act as those who are going to be judged by the law that gives freedom, 13because judgment without mercy will be shown to anyone who has not been merciful. Mercy triumphs over judgment! – Don’t expect to be forgiven if you can’t forgive, The Lords prayer. – God make me a forgiver and God make me a forgetter. God allow me to forgive and then through your power let go!

– vs. 14-17 - #1 stop right away and pray, #2 do whatever you can to help. – vs. 17 – I’ll never be able to do enough or be good enough to earn salvation, but my actions show my commitment. – Vs 14-18 – you have to change, be deliberate, TURN and PICK UP YOUR FEET! Only faith that transforms us is truly Christian. – God I thank and praise you for the transformation you have done and are doing in my life. God I cannot thank you enough for sending your son for me, God renew my commitment to you daily. God I thank you for the opportunity you gave me at work to share you! God make me more aware of my surroundings. God the moment someone brings up a need, or the moment I realize it, let me immediately stop and pray with them or for them about it. God help me to be deliberate and intentional in my actions. Show me how to glorify you.

19You believe that there is one God. Good! Even the demons believe that—and shudder.
20You foolish man, do you want evidence that faith without deeds is useless[d]?

21Was not our ancestor Abraham considered righteous for what he did when he offered his son Isaac on the altar? – I cannot imagine Abraham and certainly can’t imagine being God, to give up your son? Selfishly I wouldn’t give up my dog (okay maybe, but probably not) for someone I don’t know, let alone someone I don’t like – How amazing is gods love?!! – How great is your Love, so much higher than the heavens with faithfulness that reaches the sky! God thank you for loving me and creating me!

22You see that his faith and his actions were working together, and his faith was made complete by what he did. – I’m not really sure what this means, The Bible Reader Companion says “No conflict”… help?

23And the scripture was fulfilled that says, "Abraham believed God, and it was credited to him as righteousness,"[e] and he was called God's friend. – Desire of my heart – “To call you more than Lord, Glorious Friend” – God I thank you that you have opened your arms and heart to a personal relationship with me. God you are an everlasting God! Over and over in song I hear the promise of your friendship. “No greater love have I ever know, you considered me a friend, and captured my heart again.” God capture my heart each day anew. God to crave you and your word. To need it like our bodies need water! God Thank you for being available!

24You see that a person is justified by what he does and not by faith alone.
25In the same way, was not even Rahab the prostitute considered righteous for what she did when she gave lodging to the spies and sent them off in a different direction? 26As the body without the spirit is dead, so faith without deeds is dead.”
- James 2

God I thank you for this day, I thank you for these people and the relationships I have with them. God may you speak to their hearts and give them the encouragement and confidence to share. Thank you for putting them in my life. God thinking over the conversarions you have given to me and especially last night, I can be a big dummy and I need to trust you! Over and over again I have pray “God give me this” and the next day I’ve had it. I prayed for a mentor, and you gave me one. I prayed for a better job, you gave me one. I prayed of the opportunity to share and you gave it to me. God help me to trust you in ALL things. God you know so much better and more how I cannot and shouldn’t even try to do this alone. God thank you for your love, grace and mercy.

All my baggage. All my pain. All my sin: shame, lust, pride, lies, deceit, Judment, selfishness. I’m leaving it here. I’m placing it at your feet. I’m leaving it here. I need your help. I’m going to want to pick it back up. But I know you love me enough! That it’s okay for me to let it go. For me to be free. – Here I am. All of me. Finally. Everything. Wholly. Wholly. Wholly. I am Wholly. Wholly. Wholly. I am Wholly. Wholly. Wholly. Yours. I am Wholly yours.

Praying Throught The Bible: Day 1 - James 1

“1James, a servant of God and of the Lord Jesus Christ,
To the twelve tribes scattered among the nations:
Greetings.
2Consider it pure joy, my brothers, whenever you face trials of many kinds, 3because you know that the testing of your faith develops perseverance. 4Perseverance must finish its work so that you may be mature and complete, not lacking anything. 5If any of you lacks wisdom, he should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to him. 6But when he asks, he must believe and not doubt, because he who doubts is like a wave of the sea, blown and tossed by the wind. 7That man should not think he will receive anything from the Lord; 8he is a double-minded man, unstable in all he does.
9The brother in humble circumstances ought to take pride in his high position. 10But the one who is rich should take pride in his low position, because he will pass away like a wild flower. 11For the sun rises with scorching heat and withers the plant; its blossom falls and its beauty is destroyed. In the same way, the rich man will fade away even while he goes about his business.
12Blessed is the man who perseveres under trial, because when he has stood the test, he will receive the crown of life that God has promised to those who love him.
13When tempted, no one should say, "God is tempting me." For God cannot be tempted by evil, nor does he tempt anyone; 14but each one is tempted when, by his own evil desire, he is dragged away and enticed. 15Then, after desire has conceived, it gives birth to sin; and sin, when it is full-grown, gives birth to death.
16Don't be deceived, my dear brothers. 17Every good and perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of the heavenly lights, who does not change like shifting shadows. 18He chose to give us birth through the word of truth, that we might be a kind of firstfruits of all he created.
Listening and Doing
19My dear brothers, take note of this: Everyone should be quick to listen, slow to speak and slow to become angry, 20for man's anger does not bring about the righteous life that God desires. 21Therefore, get rid of all moral filth and the evil that is so prevalent and humbly accept the word planted in you, which can save you.
22Do not merely listen to the word, and so deceive yourselves. Do what it says. 23Anyone who listens to the word but does not do what it says is like a man who looks at his face in a mirror 24and, after looking at himself, goes away and immediately forgets what he looks like. 25But the man who looks intently into the perfect law that gives freedom, and continues to do this, not forgetting what he has heard, but doing it—he will be blessed in what he does.
26If anyone considers himself religious and yet does not keep a tight rein on his tongue, he deceives himself and his religion is worthless. 27Religion that God our Father accepts as pure and faultless is this: to look after orphans and widows in their distress and to keep oneself from being polluted by the world.”
- James 1

1James, a servant of God and of the Lord Jesus Christ, To the twelve tribes scattered among the nations:
Greetings. 2Consider it pure joy, my brothers, whenever you face trials of many kinds, 3because you know that the testing of your faith develops perseverance. – I know things will get better, and this is God giving me the opportunity to learn from my mistakes. Struggles give me the space or the opportunity to grow. – God, I thank you for being there for me in the struggle, God help me to learn to thank you at all time, and not just in the struggle, help me to praise you in the good times and the happy times! God help me to praise you in the storm
4Perseverance must finish its work so that you may be mature and complete, not lacking anything. – Thank you God of being with me in the rough times. Thank you for giving me the opportunity to learn from my mistakes. God open me so that I put this opportunity into practice and ACTUALLY learn from my mistakes.

5If any of you lacks wisdom, he should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to him. – When you don’t know what to do, ask God first – God help me to turn to you first, for you to be my numero uno! Let you be the first one to come to my mind when facing problems and decisions. God I don’t know the right words, I don’t know if I should say “help” or “let” or “make” but I am so glad that you do! Be in the front of my mind at all times.
6But when he asks, he must believe and not doubt, because he who doubts is like a wave of the sea, blown and tossed by the wind. 7That man should not think he will receive anything from the Lord; 8he is a double-minded man, unstable in all he does. – Don’t ask God and then turn around and say ”How can I solve this in case God doesn’t pull through?” – God forgive me for thinking this way, God I want to learn how to trust you completely, but I’m not exactly sure I know how. God I pray that when I ask for the desires of my heart that I will fully trust and have confidence in you that you will give me whatever I ask for. God,I’m not there yet, and In the big things I have HUGE doubts, So God I want to give this up to you right now. God I will probably have to give this up to you at the very least day by day if not minute by minute. God I believe and am trying to have faith that you have sent the man I am to marry into my life. God give me peace and strength and confidence that everything will work out according to your will. God guard my heart, I’m scared and I need to trust solely in you that the desires of my heart are according to your will. God break me moment by moment to trust in you. God I don’t want to display my doubts and un belief in this prayer to you giving up my doubts and unbelief. But Lord if he is not in your will for me, make that okay and provide healing in my heart. God take away my fears, let this journey be a time of fun and friendship. God help me to relax, to be myself and enjoy who you are. God I also pray that I am not surprised and then in turn doubt when you answer my prayers!
– Materials and wealth mean nothing to God, yet I place so much importance on them. – God take away the lust for material things in my life. God help me to control this beast that threatens to take over! God help me to trust in you for what I need and not everything I want. God slay my idol of material things and money so that I become free to worship only you!

– I as a Christian should accept my responsibility for my wrong doings, confess them, and ask god for forgiveness – God even reading this makes my heart ache and my ego tremble, God my realization about my pride hurts, God help me to take responsibility for my actions. God take out your chisel and form me into your perfect creation. Expose my vulnerabilities and make them into beauty. 16Don't be deceived, my dear brothers. 17Every good and perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of the heavenly lights, who does not change like shifting shadows. 18He chose to give us birth through the word of truth, that we might be a kind of firstfruits of all he created.

19My dear brothers, take note of this: Everyone should be quick to listen, slow to speak and slow to become angry, - God make this a motto in my life, make this quick quicker and this slow slower!
20for man's anger does not bring about the righteous life that God desires.

21Therefore, get rid of all moral filth and the evil that is so prevalent and humbly accept the word planted in you, which can save you.
22Do not merely listen to the word, and so deceive yourselves. Let me not read it and then just totally forget about it. God help me to put trust in the people who read this and lose any stories I want to attach to them. God make me long to obey your word and desire to know you more! 26If anyone considers himself religious and yet does not keep a tight rein on his tongue, he deceives himself and his religion is worthless. 27Religion that God our Father accepts as pure and faultless is this: to look after orphans and widows in their distress and to keep oneself from being polluted by the world. – My favorite verse (27) You live everyday what you believe, everything else is just religious talk. – God help me to live and show by my actions the love and faith I have in you and the love you have for me! God I commit to your ethical and moral system. I believe that you are the one true savior and I believe in your love, God I know that even if it had only been for me, if I had been the only sinner to ever come to be or who had been, you still would have sent your son to die, just for me. What a lover you are! God help me to share you love in some way, big or small with everyone I meet!- James 1

God, I thank you for being there for me in the struggle, God help me to learn to thank you at all time, and not just in the struggle, help me to praise you in the good times and the happy times! God help me to praise you in the storm. Thank you God of being with me in the rough times. Thank you for giving me the opportunity to learn from my mistakes. Be in the front of my mind at all times. God forgive me for thinking of ways not to depend on you, God I want to learn how to trust you completely, but I’m not exactly sure I know how. God I pray that when I ask for the desires of my heart that I will fully trust and have confidence in you that you will give me whatever I ask for. God I pray that your guide the people who are on this journey with me. God I thank and praise you for putting them in my life. God Thank you for the healing that you have put in my life, that I even feel comfortable enough to do this. God be with them through they’re day, and bless them. I thank you in advance for their awesome wisdom. God I thank you for the growth and transformation that is happening in me!

Praying Through The Bible

Last year I tried the posting a picture everyday for a year, and we all know how that turned out… I think I stopped doing it because it had (little to) no importance in how I lived my life. I’m on a journey where I want to learn more about God and his plan for me, and from last years idea I have come up with a new one. This year, starting with the book of James, and who knows where from there, I am going to read, (and then pray from what I got out of reading) one chapter a day.
I’m using the Life Application Study Bible, NIV from Zondervan unless otherwise noted.
My (hopeful) set up will be this:
Chapter in its entirety

Verses and my commentary/what I learned/got from them along with my prayer for that verse/set of verses

Entire prayer in one continuous read.

Thank you so much for keeping me accountable with this! I trust you all, and see you as godly men and women. I can’t wait to hear your thoughts and opinions!

God, I thank you for putting these wise people into my life! I praise you for your wonderful creations! Thank you for giving me the healing and love you know I need. Thank you for these friendships! God be with them in their hardships and struggles, God let this be a place for learning, love and friendship! Thank you for giving joy and the desire to know you more!
